Music therapy

Music therapy is a creative therapy that often focuses on non-verbal communication, enabling meaningful connection through sound, rhythm, and improvisation—especially when words are limited or unavailable.

We use musical instruments, singing, and rhythm to stimulate communication, develop motor skills, memory, attention and promote emotional well-being.

  • Improves communication and emotional expression
  • Stimulates motor coordination and concentration
  • Supports cognitive and sensory development

Do you like music?

Is it hard for you to talk about your feelings? Do you need support in a difficult life situation? Music Therapy is a systematic process of intervention where the therapist helps the client improve health using music experiences.
Take a look at the gallery below to see how music therapy sessions look in real life.

Common goals in Music therapy

  • Communication skills (using vocal/verbal sounds and gestures)
  • Social skills (making eye contact, turn-taking, initiating interaction, and self-esteem)
  • Sensory skills (through touch, listening, and levels of awareness)
  • Physical skills (fine and gross motor control and movement)
  • Cognitive skills (concentration and attention, imitation, and sequencing)
  • Emotional skills (expression of feelings non-verbally)
  • About Music therapy

Music is appealing and enjoyable, which makes it a perfect therapeutic medium. The treatment for stress, anxious, emocional, mental, social or behavioral problems includes creating, playing, singing and listening to music.
We can use many different instruments like percussions, acoustic guitar, piano, drums, voice and body. When engaged in musical tasks, many regions of the brain are stimulated simultaneously.

Who can benefit from Music therapy

Children and young adults who have developmental or learning disabilities can use Music Therapy to strengthen motor skills and learn to communicate more effectively (Autism, Down Syndrome).
Adults may find Music Therapy useful for everything, from simple stress management to treating mental and physical illness (Depression, Anxiety, Schizophrenia).
Older adults may have much to gain from Music Therapy in a group setting, as it can fulfill social needs as well as promote physical and mental well-being (Alzheimer).

    About me

I’m a Brazilian drummer and music therapist with extensive experience in Brazil, Portugal, and the Czech Republic. I graduated in Music Therapy (2007 – Faculdades EST, Brazil) and specialized in Social and Cultural Psychiatry (2014 – University of Coimbra, Portugal). My work focuses on mental health, including PTSD, Alzheimer’s, Autism Spectrum (ASD), and Special Educational Needs. Currently, I work at the Magdala Project (Caritas Archdiocese of Prague), supporting victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. I also provide music therapy at the Community Center within the same organization for adults with special educational needs, and I offer private sessions for both children and adults. Alongside my therapeutic work, I teach drums and continue to perform professionally.
